چکیده

Background: The integrity of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is essential for keeping physiological processes stable, even under stress. Since there growing interest in heart rate variability (HRV) analysis noninvasive assessment ANS sickle cell anemia (SCA) patients, we studied behavior presence a stressor that simulates daily-life multitasking, Glittre ADL test (GA-T). Objectives: To evaluate involvement using HRV adults with SCA during GA-T and to quantify strength correlation lung muscle functions. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 16 12 healthy controls without disease underwent GA-T, pulmonary function tests (spirometry, diffusing capacity carbon monoxide (DLCO), respiratory testing). Peripheral [handgrip (HGS) quadriceps (QS)] were also measured. Results: Compared controls, showed lower HRV, worse parasympathetic modulation due reductions following indices: root-mean-square difference successive normal iRRs (iRR) (RMSSD); percentage pairs consecutive whose > 50 m (pNN50); high-frequency component (HF); standard deviation instantaneous beat-to-beat (SD1) (P < 0.001 all). individuals greater sympathovagal imbalance (higher ratio between low-frequency HF components) complexity (lower approximate entropy). time was correlated activity RMSSD (rs = -0.650, P 0.01); pNN50 -0.932, 0.0001), -0.579, 0.01), SD1 -0.814, 0.0001). Correlations indices DLCO, HGS, QS measures significant. Conclusions: Adults have low activity, imbalance, abnormal complexity. addition, associated longer time, impairment diffusion, dysfunction.

Side Effects of Hydroxyurea in Patients with Sickle Cell Anemia

Background: Hemoglobin S arises is the result of a point mutation (A-T) in the sixth codon on the -globin gene on chromosome 11 causing sickle cell anemia. The presence of fetal hemoglobin in infancy plays a relatively protective role for vaso-occlusive symptoms that are the major contributor for the morbidity and mortality among patients with sickle cell anemia. hydroxyurea, an s-phase-specif...

Pulmonary hypertension in Nigerian adults with sickle cell anemia

BACKGROUND Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is the commonest hemoglobinopathy and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is reported to play a significant role in this regard. There is very limited literature on PH in SCA in Nigeria. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of Doppler-derived PH in SCA, assess its influence on exer...

Abnormal pulmonary function in adults with sickle cell anemia.

RATIONALE Pulmonary complications of sickle cell anemia (Hb-SS) commonly cause morbidity, yet few large studies of pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in this population have been reported. OBJECTIVES PFTs (spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide [DLCO]) from 310 adults with Hb-SS were analyzed to determine the pattern of pulmonary dysfunction and their association wi...

Heart rate and heart rate variability during a novel object test and a handling test in young horses.

Forty-one Dutch Warmblood immature horses were used in a study to quantify temperamental traits on the basis of heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) measures. Half of the horses received additional training from the age of 5 months onwards; the other half did not. Horses were tested at 9, 10, 21 and 22 months of age in a novel object and a handling test. During the tests, mean HR an...
